Estuary grew out of a fascination with transitional spaces,  those in-between zones where ecosystems shift, overlap, and begin to heal. These are places of transformation, like where a river meets the sea. In this confluence, the water becomes neither wholly salt nor fresh, but something else entirely, a third state that resists simple categorization. It is in these dynamic environments that life often thrives, adapting and reshaping its surroundings in surprising ways.

The forms and patterns in Estuary reflect the richness of these biologically charged thresholds. Fluid, branching shapes suggest movement and change, echoing the organic complexity of estuarine environments. This work also draws visual and conceptual connections between the branching networks found in rivers and landscapes and those within living organisms.

Whether seen in the structure of a delta or the arrangement of cells, these repeating patterns speak to a deeper unity in nature’s design, one that spans from the microscopic to the geographic.
